UnCruise Cruises Tips, Activities, and Overview

Who goes on UnCruise cruise ships?

Most UnCruise passengers fall into the 40- to 70-year-old age group. They're generally college educated, active outdoorspeople and hail mostly from the U.S., followed by Canada, Australia/New Zealand and the U.K. The cruise line's Family Discoveries program (geared for kids ages 8 to 13) attracts families, and you'll find quite a few multigenerational groups during holidays and summer vacations, especially in Alaska.

UnCruise has a devoted following and every sailing has a significant number of past UnCruise passengers.

Do I have to dress up on a UnCruise cruise?

No, the dress code on UnCruise is casual at all times.

Is everything free on UnCruise cruises?

No, but quite a lot is. All excursions, meals and beverages (soft and alcoholic) are included in your cruise fare, as is a half-hour massage -- on select ships only. Snorkeling gear is provided free of charge on some itineraries, while on others you will have to pay a rental fee.

Gratuities are additional, as are port taxes and fees.

What are UnCruise’s most popular activities?

Passengers choose UnCruise because they want to get off the ship and explore off-the-beaten path points of interest that can only be reached by inflatable boats. They prize encounters with bears, seals, monkeys and whales, so they are generally hiking, kayaking, snorkeling, swimming or paddle-boarding by day and enjoying drinks, tapas and dinner in the evening.

The excursions have options designed for a wide range of fitness levels, from easy exploration of a coastline or glacier on a skiff or a gentle shore walk to group kayaking and hard-charging challenges for only those in the best shape.

Why go with UnCruise?

  • Expedition-style itineraries to the world's most beautiful destinations.
  • Small boutique ships where passengers become fast friends.
  • Shore excursions and onboard discussions led by knowledgeable naturalists.

Best for: Active travelers and wine lovers seeking expedition travel

Not for: Anyone looking for flashy fun and late night excitement; wheelchair users

The boat was super clean and organized. The boat provided rubber boots and rubber rain suits as needed (which in Washington are needed as it rains part of every day).Read More

claustrophobic and basic more like a booze cruise

Ultimately if you're comfortable hiking/paddling alone, desire solitude at least sometimes in your nature experiences, and want knowledgable guides then this cruise might not be the right one for you.Unlike a larger ship there was nowhere to go that there weren't (lots of) other people, no sense of solitude on the boat.Read More

Uncruise delivered a substandard product on a ship that was not fit for purpose.

Later in the first part of the cruise after further malfunctions, we were told by the crew that at certain times of day the sanitation system was struggling to cope with the demands of a full complement of guests.A little later, I think following pressure from several guests, the captain made a longer announcement in which it was admitted that the first isolation had begun on day 2 of the cruise.Read More
